USM degree certificates have no less than 15 security features, it says in the wake of reports about fake degree syndicates.
KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) has enhanced its authentication process as a safeguard against syndicates providing fake degrees.
USM vice-chancellor Professor Asma Ismail, in a statement today, said USM had helped potential employers to verify the authenticity of degrees.
“It is scrutinised by the review team from various divisions.
“In addition, every degree issued by USM to its graduates, including the honorary degree, is equipped with no less than 15 security features.
“These security features are kept confidential and will be reviewed periodically to ensure they remain relevant,” she said.
She also pointed out that USM placed high emphasis on choosing the right suppliers to print the degrees.
A news report today quoted Urusan Variety Intelligence Sdn Bhd’s managing director Mark Leow as saying that apart from Universiti Teknologi Mara and SEGi University College, there were many other institutions of higher learning whose fake degrees had been identified, including that of Universiti Putra Malaysia, USM and Taylor’s University.
