Demolition of houses: Azmin ignorant of the law, says Noh

Minister says the Selangor MB is wrong to blame the federal government for the demolition as it was the Shah Alam City Council that did it.

PUTRAJAYA: Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Noh Omar says Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali is ignorant of the law because he was blaming the federal government for the demolition of three houses and two shophouses in Subang on Wednesday when it was the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) that did it.

Noh, who is also Selangor Umno Liaison chairman, said the demolition of the property had been carried out by the MBSA that comes under the jurisdiction of the state government.

“I would have prevented the demolition job if the local authority was under my ministry, despite the court order.

“I would help the people and not demolish (the buildings) and only then try to find a solution,” he told reporters after opening the Strata Management Organisation Convention, here today.

Azmin had earlier said Noh should have prevented the demolition of the houses and shophouses near the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport since the buildings were located on federal government land.

In the meantime, Noh said the 17 affected residents would be put up in new homes on Oct 10.
